OpenAI API Credits for ChatGPT Pro and Business
Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 subscribers can claim $100, $200, or $500 in API credits per monthly billing period. For monthly Business billing, Standard seats receive $20 and Premium seats $100, pooled to a $500 cap. Annually prepaid Business workspaces receive a full-year grant capped at $6,000. They fund API usage, not ChatGPT or signed-in Codex limits.
Eligible ChatGPT Pro and Business subscribers can claim promotional credits for paid usage on OpenAI's API Platform. The benefit is tied to one linked API organization, not added to a user's ChatGPT balance. (OpenAI Help Center)
The key distinction is what the credits fund: supported API usage in the linked organization. They do not cover Codex usage through API keys or raise ChatGPT or signed-in Codex usage limits. (OpenAI Help Center)
Credit amounts by plan
For Pro, the credit amount matches the plan tier. Business credits are pooled across paid seats and capped for the workspace. (OpenAI Help Center)
| Eligible plan or seat | Credit amount by billing cycle |
|---|---|
| Pro 100 | $100 per monthly billing period (OpenAI Help Center) |
| Pro 200 | $200 per monthly billing period (OpenAI Help Center) |
| Pro 500 | $500 per monthly billing period (OpenAI Help Center) |
| Business Standard seat in a monthly billed workspace | $20 per paid Standard seat (OpenAI Help Center) |
| Business Premium seat in a monthly billed workspace | $100 per paid Premium seat (OpenAI Help Center) |
| Business monthly cap | $500 per monthly billing period across Standard and Premium contributions (OpenAI Help Center) |
| Business annual cap | $6,000 per annual billing cycle for annually prepaid workspaces (OpenAI Help Center) |
The first grant can be prorated for the time left in the current paid billing period. Annually prepaid Business workspaces receive the full-year grant upfront, capped at $6,000 per annual billing cycle. Check the amount shown in ChatGPT billing before confirming the claim. (OpenAI Help Center)
Who can claim the benefit
The documented eligible subscriptions are ChatGPT Pro 100, Pro 200, Pro 500, and Business workspaces with paid Standard or Premium seats. Plus and free-trial subscriptions do not qualify, and availability also depends on the enabled cohort and country. The paid subscription must have been active for at least seven days before claiming. (OpenAI Help Center)
For a Pro subscription, the person activating the benefit must own the ChatGPT subscription and the receiving API organization. For Business, the activator must own both the ChatGPT workspace and the API organization; workspace membership or an admin role alone is not enough. One eligible subscription or workspace can link to one API organization, and that API organization can have only one active link for this benefit. (OpenAI Help Center)
How to claim
- Sign in to the ChatGPT account or Business workspace that owns the eligible paid subscription. Use the same email address for ChatGPT and the API account. (OpenAI Help Center)
- In ChatGPT, open Settings > Billing for Pro, or the Business workspace's billing settings in ChatGPT or the Admin Console. You can also start from API Platform billing. (OpenAI Help Center)
- Select the API organization that should receive the credits, review the displayed amount, and confirm the claim. (OpenAI Help Center)
After activation, eligible grants renew automatically while the benefit remains available and the subscription remains eligible. Monthly grants expire at the end of the subscription billing cycle, and unused credits do not roll over. Annually prepaid Business grants expire at the end of the annual billing cycle; the first grant can be prorated for the remaining paid term. (OpenAI Help Center)
What the credits cover
The credits apply to paid API Platform usage billed to the linked organization, including Responses and Chat Completions, Agents, Decisions, GPT-Live and Realtime, Images, and built-in tools with their applicable usage and storage charges. Promotional credits are used before purchased API credits. (OpenAI Help Center)
They do not cover Codex usage through API keys and do not increase ChatGPT or signed-in Codex usage limits. A credit balance also does not remove request-rate, token-rate, model, organization, or project limits. (OpenAI Help Center)
